What Our Custom Paint & Refinishing Actually Includes
Our custom paint and refinishing work covers everything from a single bumper respray to a complete color change with door jambs and engine bay. We strip failing finishes to bare substrate or feather-edge existing paint, apply epoxy primer for corrosion resistance, and block-sand every surface to remove waves before a single drop of color goes on. Multi-stage tri-coat systems, candy and pearl finishes, matte clearcoats, and period-correct colors for classic restorations all come out of our Garland booth.
We match colors using a spectrophotometer and spray-out test panels, not guesswork. When a 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500 "Eleanor" replica came in for a carbon fiber hood with painted stripes, we also caught poorly done previous quarter-panel work the owner hadn't noticed. That repair got added, and the car left with paint that looked right under direct sun, fluorescent light, and everything in between.

- How long does a full custom paint job take?
A same-color full exterior respray takes 5 to 10 business days. A complete color change including jambs and underhood runs 2 to 4 weeks, and show-quality finishes with extensive color sanding can take 3 to 6 weeks.
- Can you match a custom color I want if it is not a factory option?
Most custom colors can be mixed using a spectrophotometer and spray-out test panels to dial in the exact formula. Complex effects like color-shift pearls or multi-layer candies require extra test panels to get right.
- What is the difference between single-stage and basecoat-clearcoat paint?
Single-stage mixes color and gloss in one layer. Basecoat-clearcoat applies color first, then a separate clearcoat for deeper shine and UV protection, which is what modern vehicles use.
- How long should I wait before washing or waxing fresh paint?
Wait at least 30 days before waxing or applying sealants so solvents fully outgas. Hand washing with pH-neutral soap is safe after about two weeks, but avoid automatic car washes with brushes for 90 days.
- Will repainting a panel lower my vehicle's resale value?
A professionally refinished panel with proper color match and paint thickness typically does not reduce value. Poor work with overspray, texture mismatch, or excessive filler can lower it.
- Can matte or satin finishes be spot-repaired like gloss paint?
Matte and satin finishes cannot be spot-repaired or polished without altering the sheen. Damage usually requires repainting the entire panel because polishing removes the flattening agents that control the gloss level.
